Overview
Bull Outdoor Products, a company with 25+ years of expertise in outdoor kitchens, wanted to create an interactive 3D configurator for their DuraBull product line. The goal was to let users build and preview their custom kitchen layout, including cabinets, grills, sinks, and more, with live measurement and pricing updates.
The concept was inspired by IKEA’s planning tools, but required added complexity to accommodate unique cabinet behaviors and product rules specific to Bull’s offerings.
The goal
To create an intuitive, fully 3D configuration tool that enables users—especially non-tech-savvy or older customers—to easily:
Add, edit, remove, and reposition components
Visualize their kitchen in 3D
Customize colors, styles, and layouts
View accurate measurements and price breakdowns
The challenge
Designing a user-friendly flow for complex configurations
Handling special cabinet behaviors like blind corners, grills, refrigerator units, and sink cabinets
Balancing flexibility (e.g. cabinet splitting) with simplicity
Making the experience approachable for a non-tech-savvy audience
